A Warm, Safe Welcome at The Portland this Festive Season

Mothers Day – Sunday 10th March 2024

Whilst not quite the normal, festivities at The Portland ensure Christmas is still coming.

The guesthouse has undergone a festive makeover and is ready to start welcoming guests from Wednesday 2nd December as per current Government guidelines.

But what can you expect when you visit us this month?

As with the last re-opening the entire property is deep cleaned on a daily basis, with particular attention being paid to high touch point areas. Our breakfast room is set-up to ensure physical distance between guests so you won’t have to pre-order or book a time for breakfast.

Hand sanitiser is available at the front door to use when entering and leaving the property. We also encourage people to check-in using the track and trace app just inside the front door.

Our booking.com review score for cleanliness is 9.6/10 and 4.9/5 on our website reviews.

We’ve decorated the common areas to reflect the season and encourage guests to safely use and enjoy these areas during their stay.

What to do in the area?

Why visit Cheltenham this December? Well, there are a number of COVID secure events activities taking place this month. Here’s some of them below:

Sudeley Castle Spectacle of Lights

Discover the magical characters of The Nutcracker as you progress around the beautiful gardens and enchanted woodland. Gaze at the sparkling water features and the flickering field of fire. Light beams, lanterns and much, much more! https://sudeleycastle.co.uk/events/spectacle-of-light

Tweedy’s Reduced Pantomime

Christmas is not cancelled at The Everyman Theatre! They’re removing half the seats, fogging the ones that are left and swimming in sanitiser… and whilst they might not let you sing (you can hum along under your masks) there WILL BE PANTO THIS YEAR!

Walk (some of) the Cotswold Way

Take in the fresh air and explore some stunning views of the Gloucestershire countryside along the Cotswold Way. Join us back at The Portland for a warming cuppa!

Indulge in Independents

A Cruffin from The Find,
Cheese and Wine @ Domaine 16

You’ll find a handy guide of all the independent eateries that we recommend in reception, however you can’t visit Cheltenham without a visit to Domaine 16 for Cheese &Wine and a naughty festive ‘Cruffin’ and hot chocolate from The Find. Both of which you’ll find just 5 minutes’ walk from The Portland on Regent Street.

Shop, Shop, Shop

Whether you decide to visit The Brewery Quarter, wander the Promenade or peruse the Montpellier district you’ll find independents and chains to ensure everybody on your list is catered for. Yourself included!

So, whilst it might not be the festivities we want, need or crave. December in Cheltenham can, and will provide joy, cheer and hospitality in abundance. We can’t wait to welcome you, search your dates to avoid disappointment.

Warm Regards

Sam (Manager) & Corinna
